Borehole Video Services

We own a small black and white camera, normally used for video inspection of boreholes associated with geophysical logging procedures (access, blocking, restrictions, etc…).  If desired, we can offer B&W video recording services upon request.

The camera we use is a Geovision Jr., manufactured by Mark Products.  LED lights on the camera face can illuminate up to 2 feet from the camera, but optimum viewing is 2-10 inches in front of the camera.  The actual camera is 1 ½ inch diameter, plus mounting brackets for a 1 ¾ inch total diameter, needing a 2 inch hole to easily slide down the well.

Various additional attachments (pivot mount shown above) allow for tilting, mirrors, flow ribbons, or rigid PVC mounting.  Normally, the camera is lowered by hand while simply hanging on a sturdy video transmission cable.  A VHS video is created at the surface; while depth and interpretations are narrated live in the field.

For sample scaling and resolution purposes, a measuring tape with within 2-inch black PVC is shown below.  On screen video yields the highest resolution.  So if you get a paper copy of this picture, expect degradation upon printing.

An example of a screen section in 4 inch casing is shown below:

And not to forget at least one humorous shot (shown below).  A monitoring well that was flooded, revealed upon inspection, a frog and a couple moths floating at water level 300 feet down.  The reflection of the camera LED's can also be seen next to the moth:
